Safiya will show you exercises and tricks to connect to and isolate the muscles of your pelvis, hips and abdomen to make your movements more muscular and less skeletal. In this class you will learn and then drill all the gooey isolations that make Taqsuim and Beledi so intriguing. |

Use isolations, gestures, and 'percussive expressions' to explore ways to capture and keep your audience's attention. Execute shimmies combined with hip work, locks, pops and accents. Learn to use muscular control to get the most bang for your buck! Learn also to relax the body and dance without strain. Learn to develop your signature style, one that is uniquely yours. |

Intensify your slow moves without putting the audience to sleep; work up to the speed of the fastest songs without losing grace, posture, and peppiness in the hips. Dancers should be familiar with taxim, body waves, hand floreo and arm undulations, shimmy, arabic basic, egyptian basic, pivot bumps, and choo-choo. Technique and drills will be included.

900-1100 Sofia Saharr- Egyptian Saidi with Cane Everyone enjoys the funky earthiness of Egyptian Saidi. Middle Eastern audiences appreciate a dancer who has taken the time to learn about this traditional folkloric style. Sofia will teach the basics of Saidi style including how to identify Saidi music and how to spin your cane with speed and control. She will also teach a series of Saidi combinations that can be performed with or without a cane to add fun, folkloric flavor to your raks sharqi performance. This class is suitable for all levels. Bring your own cane or stick or purchase a cane from Sofia. |

With correct technique, fabric, and a veil of the right size and shape, your veil takes on a life of its' own and becomes your dance partner. With all that sassy leg work, spinning, and bending going on, someone has got to show you how to do it. In this class we'll go over technique for popular turns and spins to add variations to your movement, popular Cairo style leg work to give you some sass and then extensions and layouts to give drama and impact your performance. |

1100-100 Mariah- Turkish Rhythms This class focuses on rythms used in Turkish belly dancing, such as the Turkish Chiftelli 8/4; a rhythm used during the slower section or Taksim. Learn all about these rhythms and why they are different from rythms used in other styles such as Egyptian. Zills are required. |

300-500 Keshvar Project- Performing with a Band Creating on the spot communication, getting what you want and working with what they give you. How to invisibly cue the band to speed up the tempo, slow down, get a hard stop or a lingering ending, request a rhythm change. Hold your ground, go with the flow and trust each other. This class features live music by Keshvar. |
500-700 Roshana Nofret- Sinous, Slow, Movements .Concepts and techniques of powerful slow movements in belly dance are explored, including breath, contractions, and extended movements. Techniques will be applied to choreography and some improvisation. |
